Introduction |
London Transit’s specialized transit
service encompasses a range of service delivery options designed to
meet the range of needs of the citizens of London who have a
disability which prevents them, on a regular basis, from being able to
use London’s regular, fixed route transit service. The
current/planned delivery options are described in more detail below.
|
|
Community Bus
- An accessible fixed-route service that
connects community origins and destinations, such as seniors homes,
community centres, medical centres and shopping malls. The service is
typically provided with a smaller accessible bus, where passengers can
request the driver to deviate from the standard route in order to take
them to a desired destination. |
|
|
Trip Planning
provides
participants with the necessary knowledge for making use of the
accessible fixed-route services. Included in the information session
is planning an accessible fixed route trip, reading related schedules,
recognizing bus numbers and stops, boarding and de-boarding accessible
conventional buses, and safety. |
|
|
Workshop and Medical Shuttles
provide dedicated van trips for passengers that require a higher level
of service, which circulate to pick up passengers from locations such
as sheltered workshops or dialysis and drop them off at their
destination. |
|
|
Travel Training
provides
a higher level of support offered to people, often with cognitive
disabilities, who need more rigorous support to learn to use regular
fixed-route transit to complete their daily travel. |
|
|
Paratransit
a shared ride, door to door service for passengers that require a
lift-equipped vehicle for travel. Trips are not guaranteed and the
service is operated in accordance with policy and procedures as
reviewed and amended from time to time. |

Booking
Specialized Transit Services |
|
Unlike the regular transit system,
Specialized Transit Services works on a pre-booked shared-ride
schedule. This means that anyone registered for the service can call
in and book a trip up to 3 days in advance (see chart below) of when they would like
to go. All such bookings are made on a "first come,
first served" basis. A customer of
the service can book a trip for any purpose, however because of the
busy weekday schedule in the mornings and late afternoons, we ask
that people schedule personal trips in non-peak hours (10:00am -
2:30pm) |

Permanent booking arrangements for
service may be requested for persons who will be traveling on a
regular pre-determined basis to or from a destination such as work or
post-secondary school or certain medical purposes. In addition, one
personal permanent booking may be requested. These types of bookings
are called subscription bookings. To arrange for this
type of booking, you need to call and request it through the LCTB
office. Unfortunately, we cannot always accommodate all requests since
there is a limit to the spaces available. |
|
Please note:
All subscription bookings that fall on a Statutory Holiday will be
considered cancelled by the service provider unless otherwise notified
by the customer. |
|
|
Cancel
any trip that has been scheduled that you do not wish to use as far in
advance as possible. Scheduled trips not cancelled at least 3 hours
before the scheduled pick-up time will be recorded as a late
cancellation. Scheduled trips not cancelled at least one-half
hour before the schedule pick-up time will be recorded as a no-show.
Excessive late cancellations and/or no-shows could result in
suspension of an individual's registration. |
|
|
People who support registered
customers may make bookings, modifications, or cancel trips, provided they have the proper registration number for that
customer. The
procedure is based upon the understanding that all such bookings,
modifications, or cancellations are the sole responsibility of the
registered customer. |

Fares for Specialized Transit
Service trips are the same as for London Transit's conventional
service. You can use a bus pass, tickets or cash. See our
fares
page for more information. |
|
|
Companion(s) may come with you
provided there is enough space available at the time of booking.
Please try to be reasonable with the number of people you consider
bringing. All companions must each pay the same one way fare as the
customer. |
|
|
Groceries and other parcels may be
brought with you on Specialized Transit. However, drivers will not
assist with carrying groceries or similar packages. Arrangements
should be made for someone else to assist you if you cannot carry
packages by yourself. |
