Transit Operator Positions


Transit Operators are responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely operation of our transit vehicles. View our Transit Operator Recruitment Guide to learn more about the recruitment and selection process and this exciting career opportunity.


Requirements for this position include:

·         Excellent customer service skills

·         Familiarity with the City of London and surrounding areas

·         A, B, C, or D class driver’s license (B or C preferred) with a Z endorsement

·         Minimum of 2000 hours driving experience with an A, B, C or D class vehicle

·         Safe driving record with zero point accumulation

·         Excellent communication skills

·         Thrive working independently

·         Grade 12 diploma or the equivalent

·         Availability to work a variety of shifts including nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Following confirmation of minimum requirements, candidates will be invited to participate in a Customer Service assessment. Candidates must successfully achieve the required grade on the assessment in order to proceed further in the recruitment process. Candidates that do not achieve the required grade on the Customer Service assessment will not be eligible to re-apply until a 1 year waiting period is complete.


Licensed 310T Truck and Coach Mechanics

Licensed 310T Truck and Coach Mechanics for London Transit are responsible for maintaining the fleet equipment safely, effectively and economically.


Requirements for this position include:

·         Excellent customer service skills

·         Related diesel experience (Cummins/Detroit Diesel preferred)

·         Valid 310T Truck and Coach license

·         Valid A, B, C, or D class Ontario Driver’s license

·         Valid Z endorsement

·         High school Diploma or equivalent

·         Ability to work in a team environment


General Service Positions

General Service employees are responsible for completing the following job functions:

·         Primary duties include lead hand when assigned, servicing and cleaning of fleet vehicles;

·         Minor repairs to vehicles (examples lights, mirrors, wipers, etc.) and assist skilled trades persons as required;

·         Change engine, transmission, differential and cooling system fluids, as well as replenishes the fluids in the hydraulic system and lubricates fleet vehicles;

·         Removes and replaces wheels and rims on fleet vehicles if he/she has received appropriate Director of Plant and Equipment approved training;

·         Carry out service calls, bus change-offs, and out of service calls;

·         Washing and cleaning  of plant, equipment and fleet vehicles;

·         Grounds maintenance, scrap and garbage removal and maintenance of plant equipment as required

·         Operating (with proper training) fork lift, skid steer, bobcat, sweeper/scrubber.

·         Shoveling snow and salting sidewalks

·         Other duties as assigned


Requirements for this position include:

·         Excellent customer service skills

·         Previous light mechanical experience

·         Valid A, B, C, or D class Ontario Driver’s license

·         Valid Z endorsement

·         High school Diploma or equivalent

·         Ability to work in a team environment


Note regarding hours of work for positions in the Plant & Equipment Department:

Only afternoon shifts (e.g. 3pm to 11pm) or midnight shifts (e.g. 11pm to 7am) may be vacant (some positions rotate on 10 hour shifts). We would ask that interested applicants indicate their shift preference when they apply. Day shifts are not available.
